REQUEST: 1) Approval of Resolution No. R2026-20 appointing one (1) or more Special Magistrate(s) to a two (2) year term ending in Fiscal Year 2028, and 2) Approval of Resolution No. R2026-21 reappointing two (2) Special Magistrates to a two (2) year term ending in Fiscal Year 2028.

EXPLANATION: Staff is seeking approval of:
1. Resolution No. R2026-20 appointing one (1) or more Special Magistrate(s) to a two (2) year term ending in Fiscal Year 2028.
On March 12, 2026, Wellington released a Request for Letters of Interest #011-26/MM (LOI) for Special Magistrate services, seeking qualified candidates to provide such services to Wellington. On April 13, 2026, Wellington received two (2) submittals.
Wellington presently has three (3) Special Magistrates to hear and decide Code Compliance cases pursuant to Section 2-42 and 22-40 of the Code of Ordinances, with staggered terms. One Special Magistrate firm named two (2) attorneys, with an additional attorney providing support, if needed.
The two (2) submittals are presented to the Wellington Council for review and final selection.

2. Resolution No. R2026-21 reappointing two Special Magistrate(s) to a two (2) year term ending in Fiscal Year 2028.
On January 12, 2026, Council directed staff to reappoint Special Magistrates Michael Posner on a as needed basis and Hollie Hawn as Special Magistrate(s) to serve terms of two (2) years. This resolution will memorialize their reappointments.
