ITEM:  AUTHORIZATION TO RENEW CONTRACT WITH MD NOW MEDICAL CENTERS TO PROVIDE PRIMARY AND URGENT CARE SERVICES

REQUEST:  Authorization to renew existing contract with MD Now Medical Centers to provide primary and urgent care services to eligible employees and dependents.

…body
EXPLANATION:  In an effort to promote wellness and reduce healthcare premiums, on December 13, 2011, Council approved Resolution No. R2011-89 and authorization to award contract #032-11/ED to MD Now Medical Centers to provide primary and urgent care services to eligible Village employees and dependents. The contract was awarded effective through January 19, 2014 and included the option to renew for one additional year through January 19, 2015.

During the initial 18 month contract period (February 2012 - July 2013), employees and dependents have utilized the clinic on 65 occasions for primary care visits and 316 occasions for urgent care visits, and received 258 prescriptions at no charge. The Village has saved approximately $40,000 during this initial 18 month period (see attached summary) by having eligible employees and dependents utilize the clinic for primary and urgent care services instead of utilizing another healthcare provider. In addition employees saved approximately $6,000 in co-pays during the 18 month period. Combined the Village and employees saved approximately $46,000 during this period.

The services provided at the health clinic do not replace healthcare coverage; rather they augment the current healthcare plan and provide a lower cost alternative for both the Village and employees as summarized below:
