ITEM: AUTHORIZATION TO ISSUE A PURCHASE ORDER TO PALM BEACH COUNTY FOR THE REBUILD AND UPGRADE OF THE TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT GREENVIEW SHORES AND BINKS FOREST DRIVE

EXPLANATION: The Village of Wellington has identified the need to rebuild a deteriorating traffic signal that frequently malfunctions due to age and wear. Palm Beach County Engineering & Public Works staff conducted a detailed review and determined that a full rebuild is necessary, with the exception of the strain poles. Additionally, wireless communication and a CCTV camera will be installed to allow for remote monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
These upgrades will enhance signal reliability, enable real-time monitoring, and allow for adjustments to improve traffic flow. Per the cost estimate, the project will be executed through Palm Beach County’s annual signal contractor, Gerelco, at a total cost of $ 166,135.23 which includes a 30% contingency ($38,338.90) based on current contract bid tabs. The Village will be refunded with any unspent funds or invoiced with any overrun costs.
Pursuant to Village’s Purchasing Manual, services provided by other governmental entities (i.e. Federal State, County, or non-profit organizations as permitted by F.S., 255.60) are exempt from competition. However, due to the amount, Council approval is required.
