REQUEST:                     Authorization to continue utilizing a Southeast Florida Cooperative contract with Univar Solutions USA, Inc., as a basis for pricing for the purchase and delivery of sodium hydroxide in the amount of approximately $130,230 annually.

EXPLANATION:                     Sodium Hydroxide (caustic soda) is a liquid chemical used at both the Water Treatment Facility and the Water Reclamation Facility to control odors caused by hydrogen sulfide, which is a naturally occurring compound found in local groundwater and in wastewater. Sodium Hydroxide is also is in the water plant for stabilization of the membrane water and in the membrane cleaning system.

 

On April 19, 2024, The City of Margate, acting as the lead agency for the Southeast Florida Cooperative, renewed contract #2023-006 with Univar Solutions USA, Inc. and Brenntag Mid-South Inc for the purchase and delivery of sodium hydroxide with no price increase. The current renewal contract term expires on April 18, 2025 and the contract provides for three (3) additional one (1) year renewal options. Allied Universal Corp. a previous awardee, did not renew under this renewal period. Staff has only utilized the primary awardee, Univar Solutions USA, Inc for this contract.

In order to attain the most competitive pricing, a total of Fourteen (14) agencies (including the Village), utilizing approximately 666,000 gallons, participated in this co-operative bid.

 

Staff requests authorization to continue utilizing a Southeast Florida Co-Op contract with Univar Solutions USA, Inc. the primary awardee for the purchase and delivery of sodium hydroxide in the amount of approximately $130,230 annually.  The secondary awardee would only be utilized in the event the primary awardee was not available.
