EXPLANATION: The purpose of this project is to utilize the vacant land areas beneath the existing FPL transmission lines that run east/west and parallel to the ACME C-9 Canal. This project is also considered a high-priority initiative within the ACME R&R program.
This project is a joint effort with FPL to utilize the land for stormwater management purposes and will consists of twenty-three (23) dry detention areas. The plan was designed in coordination with FPL, so as to allow for unencumbered maintenance of the facilities as needed. Each retention area will have a direct connection to the C-9 canal. The proposed retention areas result in a net gain in compensation storage volume of approximately 63 Ac-ft.
On November 1, 2023, the Village released ITB 202339 for the C-9 Canal and Retention Expansion Project, seeking qualified firms to provide such services. The solicitation was also advertised in the Palm Beach Post and posted on Wellington’s website. On January 10, 2024, the Village received two (2) proposals meeting the required specifications.
