ITEM: AUTHORIZATION TO UTILIZE A FLORIDA FISH AND WILDLIFE CONSERVATION COMMISSION (FWC) CONTRACT FOR CANAL BANK CLEARING
REQUEST: Authorization to utilize a FWC contract with multiple vendors for canal bank clearing to remove exotic/invasive vegetation.
body
EXPLANATION: During rain and wind storm events, vegetation growing along canal bank drainage easements can splinter, uproot, and scatter into waterways. As a result, the free flow of water necessary for proper drainage is blocked. Public Works is proposing the removal of this vegetation by the most effective means possible, which requires use of a barge in designated areas. Hazards will be mitigated and maintenance accessibility enhanced. Public Works seeks authorization to utilize Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission Contract FWC 09/10-7 with multiple vendors.

FWC awarded contracts to eighteen (18) contractors in our region. Arbor Tree and Land, Inc. is the only vendor that provided a unit price for the work requiring a barge. Therefore, they will be used for projects requiring a barge. For projects that do not require the use of a barge, unit pricing will be compared between all awarded vendors to determine the lowest price per project. The initial term of the contract is for three (3) years, effective through August 30, 2013. FWC has exercised the first renewal option through August 30, 2014.
