...body
EXPLANATION: Public Works Surface Water Management Division is proposing two new projects as a continuation of canal bank clearing efforts. The first project will clear trees and vegetation from canal banks along the north side of the C-24 canal between South Road and the C-4 canal. The second project will clear canal banks on the east side of the C-7/C-25 canal extending northward from the C-26 canal for approximately 3,000 linear feet. Ninety percent (90%) of the trees and vegetation to be cleared are exotic and no homes will be affected.

On October 22, 2013, Council authorized utilization of Contract FWC 09/10-7 for canal bank clearing projects Village-wide. The contract is valid through August 30, 2014. Award was made to multiple contractors, including Palm Beach County local vendors. Unit pricing from all awarded vendors will be compared to establish the lowest price per project, subject to the application of Wellington's local preference policy. Total cost of both projects is estimated at approximately $150,000. Staff recommends utilizing an existing Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission contract as a basis for pricing for two canal bank right of way reclamation projects estimated at approximately $150,000.
