ITEM:  BALLOT QUESTIONS AMENDING THE VILLAGE CHARTER

REQUEST:  Discussion and direction by Village Council concerning ballot questions for proposed changes to the Village Charter.

…body

EXPLANATION:  On May 13, 2014, the Village Council adopted Resolution No. R2014-30 establishing a Charter Review Task Force to review the Village Charter and provide recommendations on the need for modifications to the current Charter.  The Charter Review Task Force has concluded its review of the Charter and has proposed six (6) ballot questions on various sections of the Charter.

At its workshop on September 1, 2015, Council directed staff to revise certain ballot questions and to schedule a public forum on the proposed charter revisions.  The public forum was held on September 29, 2015, and although it was well noticed and promoted on various Village web and social media sites, no one from the public attended.  Staff is seeking direction from Council concerning what, if any, revisions it would like to present to the electorate.  An ordinance concerning same will be presented on October 27, 2015 for first reading and November 10, 2015 for second reading.
