ITEM: AUTHORIZATION TO EXECUTE A CHANGE ORDER WITH H & J CONTRACTING, INC. FOR THE C-9 CANAL AND RETENTION EXPANSION PROJECT

EXPLANATION: On February 13, 2024, Council awarded a contract to H & J Contracting, Inc. in the amount of $919,449.00 for the C-9 Canal and Retention Expansion Project. Staff is seeking authorization to issue a change order to H & J Contracting, Inc. in the amount of $99,320.94. The purpose for change in contract price is to utilize sod instead of seed and mulch for the slope on the retention areas. The retention area slopes are not holding up during rain events and the seed and mulch is unable to get established. Two retention areas have already been sodded, utilizing contingency in the existing contract, and they have been very successful. The new contract amount will be $1,018,769.94.
Pursuant to the Village’s Purchasing Manual, the Change Order threshold for this procurement requires Council approval when the increase exceeds $50,000.
Staff recommends executing a change order with H & J Contracting, Inc. for C-9 Canal and Retention Expansion Project in the amount of $99,320.94.
