EXPLANATION:                     At the 2025 Directions Workshop, Council discussed the possibility of amending Wellington’s election procedures relating to runoff elections, given the significant costs associated with the April 2024 runoff ($118,119.25).  As directed by Council, the Legal Department prepared a memo detailing the runoff procedures used by other local municipalities.  Staff is seeking direction from Council regarding whether it would like to present a proposed Charter amendment to the electorate and if so, what proposed changes should be presented.
