REQUEST:                     Presentation and recognition of Wellington’s Public Safety Committee Essay Contest Winners.

EXPLANATION:                     At the March 24th regular meeting of the Public Safety Committee, members reviewed essay submissions received from students attending Wellington’s Elementary, Middle and High Schools.  This year’s essay title was “What do you think the Village of Wellington, or you, can do to help keep yourself and/or the Community Safe?”.  Participating students were required to submit a 300 word or less essay related to the assigned topic.  Committee members received blind copies of the 117 essays submitted from all schools and were tasked with evaluating and scoring all essays based on a provided grading rubric.  The Committee selected one winner each from the Elementary, Middle and High School category.  Winners are:

 

                     Donavan Kelley, 5th Grader                     Binks Forest Elementary School

                     Avery Appel, 7th Grader                                          Wellington Landings Middle School

                     Martin Blanca, 12th Grader                     Wellington Community High School

 

Each winner will be presented with a $50 gift card donated by Jet Hauling who sponsored the contest.
