ITEM: AUTHORIZATION TO UTILIZE A FLORIDA SHERIFF'S ASSOCIATION CONTRACT FOR THE PURCHASE AND DELIVERY OF A JOHN DEERE LOADER

EXPLANATION: The Public Works Department utilizes a loader to load materials removed from canals, haul materials to fill wash outs on canal banks, and clear debris from canal banks. Additional projects include pipe installation, culvert installation, and exotic tree removal. The loader is also utilized at the Village Park storage site for loading debris brought in by other crews.
Florida Sheriff's Association contract #13-11-0904 was awarded through September 30, 2014 and provides a base price of $121,565.00 plus options for units purchased through an awarded dealer. Nortrax, Inc., the awarded dealer for the South Florida region, provided pricing on this unit including options totaling $150,377.75.
The loader will replace an existing 2001 unit with almost 9,000 usage hours, which has exceeded its service life and will be used as a trade-in. The trade in allowance is $46,000.00 and reduces the total purchase price to $104,377.75.
In order to ensure best pricing for both the purchase and trade in, staff found a recently awarded contract with the State of Florida, providing a price of $155,417.66 for the same loader. To establish trade in value, staff researched recent sales of 2001 loaders with similar usage hours and found the trade in value provided to be better.
