REQUEST:  Authorization to negotiate for the purchase of 14022 Veronica Court.

EXPLANATION:  One of the Village of Wellington’s Strategic Fundamentals, Neighborhood Renaissance, focuses on providing clean, safe neighborhoods for our residents to enjoy. The Community Services department has identified the vacant lot at 14022 Veronica Court as a potential location for a neighborhood park within the Hawthorne community. Primrose Park is currently the nearest park and there have been chronic complaints of youth cutting through properties in both communities to access this amenity, even after the installation of defensive fencing and vegetation in 2012.  Additionally, there are consistent concerns of young children in the Hawthorne community playing in roads and uninvited on private property.

 

With the acquisition of this property the Village can provide a safe space for both older and younger children within the community. There is ample space on the parcel for a basketball structure and other park ameneties.

 

Three appraisals have been obtained ranging from $87,500 to $120,000.
