EXPLANATION: World class equestrian events in Wellington attract many national, international riders and residents. As great as the horse is to Wellington and the region, there is a down side known as equine waste. Wellington horse population produces an estimated 80 -100,000 tons of waste yearly, which includes an estimated 90 tons of phosphorus. Improving water quality is paramount and for Wellington, phosphorus removal is the key to maintaining water quality.
SUMMARY: Council will be presented information that outlines the magnitude of the livestock waste issue, livestock hauler feedback and possible options which are both short and long term solutions.
