ITEM: COUNCIL DISCUSSION REGARDING APPOINTMENT OF SPECIAL MAGISTRATES
REQUEST: Staff is requesting Council direction concerning the appointment of two special magistrates to a two-year term beginning June 1, 2015 and ending June 1, 2017.

EXPLANATION: The contracts for two of Wellington's four special magistrates, William Doney, Esq. and Rafael Suarez-Riva, Esq., expire on June 1, 2015. On August 14, 2012, Council passed Ordinance No. 2012-18 establishing an eight-year term limit of four, two-year terms for the appointment of special magistrates. Special Magistrate William Doney has advised he will not seek re-appointment. Special Magistrate Rafael Suarez-Riva has expressed an interest in continuing to serve.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff is requesting Council direction concerning the appointment of two special magistrates to a two-year term beginning June 1, 2015 and ending June 1, 2017.
