ITEM: SENIOR HOUSING
REQUEST: Review status of senior housing in Wellington and provide direction to staff regarding pursuit of any projects/programs for the future.

EXPLANATION: Members of the Senior Housing Committee have recommended that Wellington pursue the development of an age restricted conventional housing project to provide affordable housing opportunities to current and future Wellington residents. Staff has prepared a status report detailing options currently available in the community and has conducted a survey to identify the housing needs and desires of the senior community. Staff is looking for direction on the continuation and/or expansion of existing programs and whether to pursue new development options, including offering property and/or funding to facilitate development.
RECOMMENDATION: Staff believes the programs in place are proving beneficial and should be continued and enhanced. Staff has not identified a need for Wellington to participate financially or with a land dedication to facilitate a below market priced age restricted housing project at this time.
