EXPLANATION: Annually the Village Council recognizes those Public Safety personnel that have been nominated as Wellington’s Top Cop and Top Firefighter.
For 2016, both Captain Silva of the Wellington District 8 Sheriff’s Office and Battalion Chief Michael Arena of Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Battalion 2 nominated their respective candidates for this award. Captain Silva’s nominations included Deputy Sheriff Jason Horowitz and Detective David Murray. Chief Arena’s nominations included Captain David Prill, EMS Captain Tracey Adams and Lieutenant Sebastian Garay.
These nominations were presented to the Public Safety Committee for consideration at the June 29th regular meeting, at which time the Committee selected this year’s candidates. By unanimous vote, the Committee selected Detective David Murray for Wellington’s Top Cop for 2016 and Lieutenant Sebastian Garay for Wellington’s Top Firefighter for 2016. This year’s candidates are in attendance to accept their awards.
