EXPLANATION: Laurie Hand began her career with the Village of Wellington more than 15 years ago as a Laboratory Technician. Laurie has 33 years of experience working in microbiology laboratories and currently serves as the Utility’s Quality Assurance Manager and as the Quality and Technical Manager for the Utility’s certified microbiology laboratory.
The role of the Quality Assurance Manager is to ensure continuous improvement in environmental compliance processes and functions relative to regulatory compliance. In her capacity she oversees the collection, analysis and reporting of over 4,200 samples, 19,000 individual analysis and over 600 reports to regulatory agencies including the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Environmental Protection and the Palm Beach County Health Department. Laurie has consistently maintained the microbiology lab certification from the National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation. She is also responsible for training the water and wastewater plant operators relative to sampling protocols, updating and overseeing 30 laboratory standard operating protocols and maintaining the laboratory’s Quality Assurance Manual. Laurie has a strong work ethic, is very dependable, possesses excellent organizational skills and works extremely well with all employees. She also loves to laugh!
It is for these reasons and many more that Laurie is Wellington’s January Employee of the Month.
