ITEM: AUTHORIZATION TO UTILIZE A SOUTHEAST FLORIDA COOPERATIVE CONTRACT FOR THE PURCHASE AND DELIVERY OF SODIUM HYDROXIDE

EXPLANATION: Sodium Hydroxide (caustic soda) is a liquid chemical used at both the Water Treatment Facility and the Water Reclamation Facility to control odors caused by hydrogen sulfide, which is a naturally occurring compound found in local groundwater and in wastewater.
The City of Margate, acting as the lead agency for the Southeast Florida Co-Op, awarded contract #2018-013 to Allied Universal Corporation through April 16, 2020 for the purchase and delivery of sodium hydroxide in the amount of $2.76 per gallon for full truckload deliveries. The new contracted price is approximately $1.07 higher per gallon than the previously contracted price. Such increase accounts for approximately $28,400.00 in additional annual expenditures.
In order to attain the most competitive pricing, a total of fifteen (15) agencies (including the Village) utilizing over 500,000 gallons, participated in this co-operative bid.

No Western Community or Palm Beach County local vendor provides Sodium Hydroxide in the quantities required.
