EXPLANATION: Through the Edward Byrne Justice Assistance Grant Program, funding is made available in the form of a non-competitive formula grant to state and local governments to assist in carrying out public safety related activities. In July, 2018, the Village of Wellington was allocated $7,654 (see attached 2017 allocations listing). In order to obtain the allocated grant funds, Wellington is required to provide an opportunity for public comment and Council approval of the application.

As part of an ongoing project aimed at reducing incidences of vandalism and other crime activity, Wellington has proposed to utilize the funds for the purchase of additional security cameras. These installations will serve as a crime deterrent and as an aid in solving crimes on public property, including parks and other governmental facilities. Staff will coordinate with the Sheriff's office to identify the most appropriate locations and means of monitoring.
