EXPLANATION: The Utilities Department utilizes sodium hypochlorite as a disinfectant in its water and wastewater treatment processes.

The City of Plantation awarded contract #ITB 016-16 to Allied Universal Corporation for the purchase and delivery of sodium hypochlorite. The City of Plantation recently exercised the second renewal option effective through October 20, 2019. The delivered per gallon price with Allied Universal Corporation remains at $0.518 for split or full tanker load (no increase).

Staff requests authorization to utilize the City of Plantation contract #016-16 with Allied Universal Corporation for the purchase and delivery of sodium hypochlorite in the amount of approximately $396,000.00. The increased cost is due to projected increased demands along with variations in the treatment plant operations due to the upcoming construction.

In order to ensure the best price, staff compared pricing with a City of Stuart contract and found that the City of Plantation contract provides the best price to the Village.

No Western Community or Palm Beach County local vendor provides Sodium Hypochlorite in the quantities required.
