EXPLANATION:  The Florida Legislature has placed Amendment 1 on the 2018 general election ballot.  This proposed constitutional change exempts the assessed valuation of homestead property greater than $100,000 and up to $125,000 for all levies other than school district levies. If approved by the voters, this amendment will expand the homestead exemption and shift the burden to other taxpayers. The Florida League of Cities has asked its members to support a resolution that outlines the negative impact the passage of Amendment 1 would have.  The resolution also urges cities to ask their residents to carefully consider the potential adverse consequences of Amendment 1 before they vote in the November 2018 general election.
