ITEM: AUTHORIZATION TO AWARD A CONTRACT FOR THE RECONDITIONING OF THE TRASH RAKE AT PUMP STATION 6

EXPLANATION: Pump Station 6 is located on the C-8 canal (11075 Acme Road), which discharges into the C-51 canal along the south side of State Road 80. The trash rake at Pump Station 6 was installed in 2004. At the present time, the trash rake is not working properly and requires reconditioning. While the pumps are running, the trash rake removes debris and vegetation from the protective bar screens on the upstream side of the pump station. Wellington currently has six (6) trash rakes Village-wide manufactured by Hydro Components Systems LLC.
The cost for the reconditioning the trash rake is $46,200.00. The useful life of these repairs will be between five (5) to seven (7) years. The cost to replace this trash rake with similar equipment is approximately $175,000.00.
Pursuant to Chapter 3 of the Village's Purchasing Manual, maintenance of equipment is exempt from competition when services are provided by the equipment manufacturer or manufacturer's service representative; however, since expenditures exceed $25,000.00, Council approval is required.
Staff recommends awarding a contract to Hydro Components Systems LLC for the reconditioning of the trash rake at Pump Station 6 in the amount of $46,200.00.
