EXPLANATION: In 2015, the Public Works Department completed the two year process for agency accreditation by the American Public Works Association (APWA). The accreditation program is based on the Public Works Management Practices Manual, containing more than 500 procedures that are set forth for public works agency operations and provides a framework for objective evaluation of agency operations. The program is voluntary and is a means of formally verifying and recognizing public works agencies for compliance with the recommended practices.
As an accredited agency, the Department must go through reaccreditation including an on-site evaluation every four years. APWA representatives conducted a site visit and on-site evaluation in January of this year and has recommended reaccreditation for the department.
Representatives from the American Public Works Association will be in attendance to present this award.
