EXPLANATION: Each year the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office hosts a Volunteer Awards Luncheon to recognize volunteers as part of their Citizens on Patrol (COP) program.

Volunteer Sergeant Kenneth (Ken) Finkleman's main home unit is Unit 1 (Wellington). Sergeant Finkleman is also part of PBSO's traffic monitoring unit which includes speed trailers, radar/speed monitoring and handicap violation enforcement. Sergeant Finkleman received the Volunteer Award for Excellence while also volunteering in the Department of Corrections. This award is presented to a volunteer who made exceptional contributions in the delivery of quality education, counseling, rehabilitative programming, religious services and transition/re-entry to inmate/detainee population.

Volunteer Captain Chet McCarthy is a member of Wellington's Buena Vida Unit 95 which is his home unit. Captain McCarthy is also the captain for the Volunteer Emergency Response Team (V.E.R.T). Under his leadership, V.E.R.T received a Unit Commendation Award which is awarded to a unit whose combined members performed outstanding community service of a sustained direct and consequential nature that produced tangible results. This unit is a 24 hour callout unit designed to assist with emergency situations that require road shutdown and traffic control making it possible for deputies to be free to handle other emergency calls. They also assist with the presidential/dignitary details. It should be noted that, under Captain McCarthy's leadership, last year V.E.R.T received the Sheriff's Volunteer Special Commendation Award.
