ITEM: AUTHORIZATION TO UTILIZE A CITY OF PUNTA GORDA CONTRACT WITH AMERICAN WATER CHEMICALS, INC. FOR THE PURCHASE AND DELIVERY OF ANTI-SCALANT
REQUEST: Authorization to utilize a City of Punta Gorda contract, as a basis for pricing, with American Water Chemicals, Inc. for the purchase and delivery of anti-scalant, in the amount of approximately $65,000.00.

EXPLANATION: The Utilities Department utilizes anti-scalant in the membrane treatment process to prevent the scaling of the membrane elements. Anti-scalant has been developed and tested in order to enhance membrane operational efficiency, optimize life expectancy, and reduce costs.
The City of Punta Gorda awarded contract #R2019104 to American Water Chemicals, Inc. for the purchase and delivery of anti-scalant. The initial term of the contract is effective April 1, 2020 through March 31, 2023 with an optional renewal period of April 1, 2023 through March 31, 2026, if mutually agreed upon by both parties. This is a slight decrease in pricing from $1.025 to $0.949 per pound with this new contract, a savings of approximately $5,000 annually.
Staff requests authorization to utilize the City of Punta Gorda contract #R2019104 with American Water Chemicals, Inc. for the delivery and purchase of anti-scalant in the amount of $65,000.00.
Funds are budgeted in the Water Treatment Plant Operating Budget for FY 2020-2021.
