ITEM: WASTE MANAGEMENT, INC. WELLINGTON ENVIRONMENTAL SCHOLARSHIP
EXPLANATION: As part of its contract with Waste Management, Inc. (WMI), WMI is responsible for providing $2,500.00 in sustainability scholarships to each of Wellington’s high schools (Wellington and Palm Beach Central High School). The scholarships are to be utilized for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs at both schools and are awarded based on an essay competition concerning sustainability issues.
For FY21, the Education Committee is tasked with selecting four (4) winners from the applications received; two (2) from Wellington High School and two (2) from Palm Beach Central High School. Each school will receive a one-time $1,500 scholarship and a one-time $1,000 scholarship. Awards are sent directly to the winner’s college of choice.
This year’s submissions were sent to all Education Committee members to review, rank and score based on the matrix provided prior to tonight’s meeting. The Committee along with one (1) representative from WMI, will now review and score each finalist and select two scholarship award recipients from each school.
