ITEM: AUTHORIZATION TO UTILIZE AN EXISTING ANNUAL PUBLIC WORKS CONTRACT TO DESILT CANALS
REQUEST: Authorization to utilize an existing annual Public Works contract to desilt portions of the C24C, C-24B and C-2 between C-24 and C-24C canals (location map attached), at an estimated cost of $89,900.

EXPLANATION: The Public Works Department is seeking authorization to utilize an annual Public Works contract ITB #202101, previously approved by Council on January 12, 2021, with South Florida Building, Inc. DBA Marine Contractors to desilt portions of the C24C, C-24B and C-2 between C-24 and C-24C. Desilting the canals will clear the sandbars and any obstructions in the canal. The dirt will also be used to shore up swales in residential communities. Below is a summary of the estimate.
• Long boom tractor at $150/hour for 310 hours for a cost of $46,500
• Dump truck tri-axle 18 CY at $70/hour for 620 hours for a cost of $43,400
All estimates are based on unit pricing contained in the contract previously approved by Council. Although this contract is not set to expire for some time, this project will exceed $25,000 and requires Council approval.
