ITEM: AUTHORIZATION TO UTILIZE A BROWARD COUNTY CONTRACT AS A BASIS FOR PRICING, FOR THE REDUNDANT RADIO ANTENNA FOR VILLAGE RADIOS
REQUEST: Authorization to utilize a Broward County Contract with Radio One, Inc. as a basis for pricing for the redundant radio antenna for Village Radios, in an amount of $45,227.43.

EXPLANATION: The Village of Wellington Radio System is used by every department for day-to-day operations, projects, and special events and is relied upon heavily during emergency situations. The Village Radio System currently only has one (1) main antenna that provides service Village-wide. Should anything happen to the radio antenna (hardware failure, electrical failure, weather events, etc.), the radios would be restricted to a significantly shortened half mile range from radio to radio. City Hall has an antenna but its fixed range is limited to 1-2 miles. We are asking to add an additional antenna to the new monopole at the Waste Reclamation Facility. This antenna would provide the Village a backup antenna with a 5-10 mile range and a solid n+1 backup solution to ensure radio signal coverage in any event.
The IT staff has worked with Radio One, Inc. (VOW preferred vendor) to engineer the proposed solution for the cost of $45,227.43. This includes all parts, installation, setup and training. The Village will get any and all electrical work, conduit installation, wall penetrations and permitting done prior to antenna installation.
Broward County renewed contract #TEC2112490A1 with Radio One, Inc. to upgrade their local government system through March 28, 2022. This contract has one (1) additional renewal remaining.
