EXPLANATION: Per Section 1.8.1 of Wellington's Land Development Regulations (LDR) the Planning, Zoning and Building Director, or designee, may file a request with Wellington's Council for approval of a Zoning in Progress Resolution when it is determined there is a need for a Wellington initiated change to the LDR.

Artificial or synthetic turf has seen an increase of use in non-athletic and governmental applications, such as residential use in back yards and within commercial centers. Chapter 8, Landscape, of Article 7, Site Development Standards, provides landscape requirements for all properties within Wellington, but limits the installation of artificial turf to governmental use. Research is needed on the benefits and consequences of allowing artificial turf in areas intended for sod, landscaping, or mulch, and surveying other local communities on how/where artificial turf is permitted to be installed.

If approved, the Zoning in Progress shall remain in effect for 180 calendar days or until the adoption/denial of the proposed amendment, whichever occurs first.
