ITEM:                     FIRST READING OF ORDINANCES AMENDING CHAPTERS 9 THROUGH 16 OF WELLINGTON’S CODE OF ORDINANCES

REQUEST:                     Approval on First Reading of Chapters 9 through 16 of Wellington’s Code of Ordinances.

…body

EXPLANATION:                     Wellington is continuing its efforts to simplify and update its Code of Ordinances so that they reflect the changes in circumstances, goals and desires that have occurred since original adoption. The proposed revisions simplify the Code to make it easier to read and understand, and eliminate duplicative and conflicting provisions. Chapters 1 through 8 were presented to Council on November 9, 2021 and approved on first reading.

Once updated, the new Code will reorder the chapters to make it entirely alphabetical (as originally intended) and will have 24 chapters. None of the changes proposed would materially change the way the Village operates and no major changes to regulations are being made. A spreadsheet identifying the changes proposed is attached. The remaining chapters (17 through 24) will follow for adoption on first reading. Once all of the chapters have been adopted on first reading, staff will bring forward the entire rewritten Code for adoption on second reading.
