ITEM: RESOLUTION NO. R2022-09 (PROVIDING FOR SUBMISSION OF PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENTS TO THE ELECTORATE FOR REFERENDUM AT THE AUGUST 23, 2022 ELECTION)
A RESOLUTION OF WELLINGTON, FLORIDA’S COUNCIL AUTHORIZING THE SUBMISSION OF PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENTS ADOPTED IN ORDINANCES 2022-14 AND 2022-15 TO THE ELECTORS OF WELLINGTON FOR REFERENDUM AT THE AUGUST 23, 2022 ELECTION; AUTHORIZING THE PALM BEACH COUNTY SUPERVISOR OF ELECTIONS TO CONDUCT ALL LOGIC AND ACCURACY TESTS FOR THE 2022 WELLINGTON REFERENDUM ELECTION; AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
REQUEST: Approval of Resolution No. R2022-09 designating the date, time and place for submission to the Wellington electors of the proposed amendments to Wellington’s Charter adopted in Ordinance Nos. 2022-14 and 2022-15 and authorizing the Supervisor of Elections to conduct all logic and accuracy tests for the referendum questions.

EXPLANATION: On April 26, 2022, Wellington approved two ordinances setting forth proposed amendments to Wellington’s Charter. The proposed Charter language is subject to a referendum of Wellington’s voters. Resolution No. R2022-09 designates the date, time and place for the referendum and will be held in conjunction with the August 23, 2022 Primary Election. The Resolution also authorizes the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections to conduct all logic and accuracy tests for the referendum election.

FISCAL IMPACT: The Supervisor of Elections office has stated they are not able to quantify the costs for the election at this time, but the fees will include Supervisor of Elections’ fees and other incidentals. An invoice will be provided to the municipality after the election.
