EXPLANATION: At the April 27, 2022 Public Safety and Education Committee Joint Meeting, members reviewed essay submissions received from students attending Wellington's Elementary, Middle and High Schools. This year's essay title for the elementary schools was "What do you feel makes your neighborhood safe?" and the essay title for middle and high schools was "What has the Village of Wellington or you done to keep Wellington Safe?". Participating students were required to submit a 300 word or less essay related to the assigned topic. Committee members received blind copies of the 151 essays submitted from all schools and were tasked with evaluating and scoring all essays based on a provided grading rubric. The Committee selected the following winners:
Elementary School Category:
1st Place: Mia Mathews (E7), Elbridge Gale
Runner up: Liliana Blanco (E2), Elbridge Gale
Runner up: Gavin McBriar (E8), Binks Elementary
Runner up: Aayush Patel (E11), Equestrian Trails
Middle School Category:
1st Place: Ava Rose McBriar, Wellington Landings
High School Category:
1st Place: Jacob Schecter (H121), Palm Beach Central High School
Runner Up: Kayla Cho (H22), Wellington High School
Runner Up: Isabella Veillard (H134), Wellington High School
Thanks to a generous donation by Jet Hauling, 1st place winners will receive a $100 Visa gift card and 2nd place winners will receive a $50 Visa gift card. Middle School and High School students will also receive 10 hours of community service issued by their respective schools.
