ITEM:                     AUTHORIZATION TO RENEW EXISTING CONTRACTS FOR PALM TREE PRUNING AND ROOT PRUNING

REQUEST:                     Authorization to renew existing contracts with a primary (Duffy’s Total Care Lawn Service, Inc.) and secondary (Mainguy Landscape Services) for palm tree pruning and root pruning/barrier installation in the amount of approximately $57,000 annually.

…body

EXPLANATION:                     The Public Works Department utilizes contracts for palm tree pruning and root pruning/barrier installation services.  Palm pruning specifically entails the aesthetic pruning of a palm to remove all seedpods and fronds that are dead or hanging below the horizontal plane.  Root pruning and barrier installation protects existing concrete sidewalks, asphalt pathways/roadways, parking lots and other infrastructure on an as needed basis.  Hedges and trees, which have continually migrating roots, border a large majority of Wellington’s existing asphalt and concrete sidewalks causing potential trip hazards.

On July, 14, 2020, Council awarded ITB #202026 to Duffy’s Total Care Lawn Service, Inc. and Mainguy Landscape Services to provide such services through July 13, 2023.

Staff is requesting authorization to exercise the first renewal option with Duffy’s Total Care Lawn Service, Inc. as the primary awardee with a minimal 6% increase and with Mainguy Landscape Services as the secondary for Section B with no increases through July 12, 2024 as shown on Exhibit A.

Prior year expenditures were approximately $53,850.00.
