ITEM: AUTHORIZATION TO AWARD A CONTRACT FOR THE WELLINGTON REGIONAL HOSPITAL WATER SERVICE MODIFICATIONS

REQUEST: Authorization to award a contract to B & B Underground Construction, Inc. for the Wellington Regional Hospital Water Service Modifications in the amount of $64,069.00.

...body
EXPLANATION: The Utility's largest customer is Wellington Regional Hospital. The hospital is served by a single above ground 6" meter that was installed over 10 years ago. The meter has reached the end of its service life and needs to be replaced. The existing above ground piping configuration does not permit replacement of the meter without shutting down the water service to the hospital. In order to change the meter without shutting down the hospital, now and in the future, staff is proposing to make a new connection to the water distribution system and construct a new meter assembly including required backflow preventer. The existing above ground piping will remain in place and serve as a permanent online bypass. The existing meter will be removed and straight pipe installed in its place. Connections to the existing distribution system require the installation of two wet taps and one inserta valve to eliminate service disruption

The Village has met with representatives from the hospital regarding the project. The project will be coordinated such that disruption to hospital operations relative to ingress/egress and parking will be minimal.

On July 29, 2018, Wellington released ITB #022-18/MM on Demandstar, seeking qualified firms to provide such services. The solicitation was also advertised in the Palm Beach Post and posted on Wellington's website. On August 29, 2018, five (5) proposals were received.
